If you switched on GMB today expecting to see Susanna Reid, you’ll have noticed she was absent.

The presenter, 55, recently disclosed that she’s stepping away from her morning duties to concentrate on an exciting “special project” that she’s keeping under wraps from fans.

Due to this new venture, viewers will have to get used to her absence for a few more days as she’s not expected to return to her regular presenting slot until Monday, 6th July.

Susanna was last spotted on the famous sofa on Monday, 22nd June, when she fronted the programme alongside fellow presenter Ed Balls.

The morning turned out to be particularly dramatic as cameras had been positioned outside Downing Street, with Susanna suggesting that breaking news could emerge while the show was being broadcast, reports Wales Online.

She then revealed that GMB would run until 10am, taking over Lorraine Kelly’s usual time slot. Susanna said: “We are now in rolling news mode, we will be on air until 10am this morning because we’ve anticipated it all morning.”

Later in the programme, Sir Keir Starmer stepped out from Downing Street to declare his plan to resign as Prime Minister once a successor has been chosen, accepting he was not best placed to lead Labour into the upcoming general election, while also setting out a timetable for his departure.

Susanna later marked the historic moment on Instagram, posting: “BREAKING! At 9.30 this morning the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer RESIGNED as Prime Minister live @gmb. ANOTHER resignation at Number 10 in the last DECADE after Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss, and Sunak.”

In the same post, Susanna revealed details about her forthcoming absence from screens, adding: “I’m on a special project and will be back @gmb on Monday 6th July, the week that nominations for a new leader open. See you then @itv.”

The details of Susanna’s mysterious project remain under wraps, with ITV keeping quiet on the subject.

Kate Garraway took over co-hosting duties alongside Ed Balls on Monday, 29th June, while Adil Ray has confirmed he’ll be manning the GMB desk on Thursday, 2nd July, while Susanna is away.

On 24th June, Adil shared on Instagram: “Some news! Yes I have not been on in a while but glad to be on a little over the coming weeks, on what remains one the most important shows on UK television, during the most important of times.

“Being one of the only (if not the only) Muslims to host a major news show in mainstream peak daytime. So many others have left the traditional outlets, so I am fortunate and grateful of the continued opportunity.
