The Scots Active group professes to be the champion of women and children who find themselves stricken on the streets. Clad in black, the group patrols dark streets, making videos and looking out for “crackpots” who could strike at any moment.

The crackpots they refer to are immigrants. They make little distinction between the types of immigrant and the dangers they pose.

Scots Active organiser Darren Docherty claims he has no truck with racism, that his only concern is with illegal immigrants who pose a threat to “our people”. In today’s Record, we reveal the real Darren Docherty.

Using the same phone number he has for his flooring business, Docherty started a WhatsApp group to promote an anti-immigration demo that quickly amassed 1000 followers.

And the name for the group – “Get These C**** Out of Here”.

The language is so blatant, so naked that there can be no doubt racism is the motive that drove this rally. Young men in black, some wearing Union Flag masks, can be seen fighting with police and making disgraceful Nazi salutes. There is little on display here other than hate.

Scottish women and children do not need the protection of Scots Active or any of the other rag-bag groups that seek to spread racial unrest. They need protection from the likes of Darren Docherty and their vile messages of division.

Ivan McKee is a rarity in Holyrood, having built up a series of successful businesses before standing to become an MSP.

Everyone who reaches the age of 60 is entitled to a pass. And thanks to recent reforms, everyone under the age of 22 is as well. That means around half the population can travel for free.

McKee says he enjoys speaking with his constituents when he travels by bus. So no one could accuse him of avoiding the public.

But at a time when public services are under greater fiscal pressure than ever before, some awkward conversations may be required over who is entitled to what in the longer term.
