Jenrry Mejia, a former New York Mets pitcher, claims he narrowly escaped death during the recent devastating earthquakes in Venezuela.
Mejia attributes his survival to “divine intervention” after an elevator in his Caracas hotel unexpectedly took him to the basement instead of his sixth-floor room.
This allowed him to flee the building just 40 seconds before it collapsed, and he also managed to rescue an elderly man.
The baseball player lost all his possessions and is currently unable to return to the Dominican Republic due to suspended flights.
The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, have resulted in at least 235 confirmed deaths and 40,000 missing people, leading to a declared state of emergency.
