  • Centrica, the owner of British Gas, has announced plans to cut 1,300 jobs over the next two years.
  • This figure includes 800 new job reductions on top of 500 roles previously announced last month.
  • The cuts are part of an overhaul of customer services and support teams, aiming for greater efficiency.
  • Proposals involve reducing about 500 contact-based jobs in customer operations and additional cuts to offshore outsourced support roles, leading to a 14 per cent reduction in the customer operations workforce.
  • The company attributes these changes to structural shifts in customer behaviour, with around 90 per cent of customers now opting for digital support methods.
