Air Peace has suspended all flights to and from the Benin Airport following the temporary closure of the airport’s runway after a runway incursion.
The airline disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the suspension would affect all its scheduled operations to the airport.
It said the decision became necessary because of circumstances beyond its control, expressing regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers.
The statement read, “Air Peace wishes to inform its valued customers and the general public that all flights to and from Benin Airport have been temporarily suspended today following the closure of the airport’s runway due to a runway incursion.
“The temporary suspension and cancellation of affected flights are necessitated by circumstances beyond the airline’s control. We sincerely regret the inconvenience this disruption may cause and appeal to all affected passengers for their patience and understanding as the relevant airport authorities work to restore normal operations.”
The development comes after an Enugu Air Embraer E170 aircraft operating Flight 4264 from Lagos to Benin was involved in a runway excursion after overrunning the end of Runway 05 while landing at the Benin Airport on Thursday.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has also commenced an investigation into the incident, while confirming that all 63 passengers and five crew members on board the aircraft were safely accounted for and that no injuries were reported.
The bureau said a preliminary report would be issued within 30 days in line with regulatory requirements.
