A man in his 20s has been rushed to hospital following a stabbing outside a Tesco Express in north London.

The victim was found on High Road in the Green Lanes area of Wood Green shortly after 4am. Several paramedics and a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance treated him for a single knife wound and took him to a major trauma centre. Police later said his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody.

High Road is now open to drivers and pedestrians, according to traffic monitoring site Inrix.

The area is no longer sealed off but police remain at the scene and are continuing to make enquiries.

Four bus routes are being diverted due to the closure of a section of High Road, Transport for London has confirmed.

Affected routes include the 121, 232, 329 and N29 services, which are being diverted via Bounds Green High Road, Brownlow Road and Bowes Road.

The injured man was found near the Tesco Express on High Road, Wood Green, between Arcadian Gardens and Lyndhurst Road. The busy road runs towards Wood Green Tube station and forms part of Green Lanes.

Several homes and the Arcadian Gardens Medical Centre overlook the scene.

A spokeperson for the London Ambulance Service has said:

“We were called at 4.03am today (19 May) to reports of a stabbing on High Road, Wood Green. We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance. We treated a man for a stab wound and took him to a major trauma centre.”
