More than 1,000 people enjoyed free health advice, wellbeing support and family activities as Wellness in Wishaw returned for a second successful year.
Organised by University Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, the event brought health, social care, voluntary and community organisations together at the Houldsworth Centre with visitors enjoying free health advice, wellbeing support, family activities and direct access to local services.
Visitors were able to drop in for advice and support on a wide range of topics including menopause, continence advice, stress and distress and falls prevention.
More than 40 information stands were spread across the ground floor with representatives from organisations including University Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, SAMH, Lanarkshire Carers, mental health support teams, Routes to Work, and a number of community development projects.
The event’s local impact has also been recognised nationally after Clare Adamson MSP lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament praising Wellness in Wishaw and the dedication of staff involved in making it happen.
The motion recognised the work of University Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire and its partners in bringing together a wide range of services and supporting local people to access support and early intervention services close to home.
Michelle McKillop, Wishaw Locality Service Manager, University Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, said: “It was fantastic to see more than 1,000 people coming along to Wellness in Wishaw and taking the opportunity to find out what support is available in their community.
“The event is all about bringing services closer to people and making it easier to get help when they need it. If someone came along for advice, support, an activity or simply a conversation, every chat and discussion had the potential to make a positive difference.
“This event shows the strength of partnership working in Wishaw and we’re so proud it built on last year’s success.”
