Venezuelan resident films terrifying high-rise escape as building crumbles during earthquake
Powerful back-to-back earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday, causing widespread devastation.
Interim president Delcy Rodriguez confirmed the death toll has risen to 164, with over 10,000 people reported missing.
The two quakes, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, occurred within 39 seconds of each other, injuring at least 900 people.
The disaster led to building collapses in Caracas and forced the closure of the country’s main international airport, prompting a state of emergency declaration.
Rescuers are searching through rubble for survivors, while the US Geological Survey estimates a 44 per cent chance of fatalities exceeding 10,000.
