Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian wants the United States to be compelled to remain committed to the Memorandum of Understanding it signed.

Pezeshkian recalled that the MoU was fully endorsed by Iran’s Parliament, saying the agreement will be “the center of gravity” of Iran’s foreign relations in the future.

“The security of the country, the region, and our allies will be enhanced by this memorandum,” the President wrote in a X post on Sunday.

The MoU was signed on June 17, 2026, after a mediation by Pakistan. The pact seeks to permanently end military operations, lift U.S. naval blockades, and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

But a diplomatic pause that went into effect after the signing collapsed in July following breaches at Hormuz. The incidents triggered a new round of airstrikes and regional hostilities.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has confirmed negotiations with Oman, regarding a new route, have made progress and are in the final stages of talks.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, however, said the Iran-Oman agreement has no connection to reopening the Hormuz Strait or maintaining its closure.

Baghaei also claimed that over the weekend, Tehran received calls from Bulgaria, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, all assuring they will not be a part of any conflict against Iran.
