Trump demands GOP scrap filibuster to ram through voting bill

Donald Trump is pressuring Senate Majority Leader John Thune to pass the “SAVE America Act,” a restrictive voting bill, or eliminate the Senate filibuster.
Trump demanded on Truth Social that the Senate forgo its August recess until the bill passes or the filibuster is terminated, allowing Republicans to pass legislation with a simple majority.
The “SAVE America Act” currently lacks the 60 votes required to overcome the Senate’s supermajority rule for most legislation.
Senator Thune has repeatedly stated there is insufficient support, even among Republicans, to pass the bill or change the filibuster rules.
Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, indicated his “patience was running out,” prompting Thune to suggest she gather the necessary votes instead of blaming Republicans.
