Trump confirms he will nominate Lance Schroyer as next ICE director

Donald Trump has announced his nomination of Lance Schroyer to be the next director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Trump praised Schroyer’s 29 years of law enforcement experience and stated he would significantly increase the detention and deportation of “Illegal Alien Criminals”.
The nomination coincides with a new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) inspector general investigation into detainee deaths at ICE facilities.
Over 50 people have died in ICE custody since Trump’s return to office, with deaths reportedly increasing every year since 2022, prompting the DHS review.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has called for independent oversight and accountability for deaths in ICE custody, while a DHS spokesperson denied any “spike in deaths”.
