Troops storm illegal shanties, dismantle criminal hideouts in Abuja

Troops of the Army Headquarters Garrison, in collaboration with Operation SWEEP, have stormed illegal shanties and dismantled structures suspected of providing cover for criminal activities in parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The operation was conducted at about 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 23, 2026, across Karshi, Jeje, Kurape and Nyanya areas of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, troops raided the areas and dismantled several illegal shanties and structures as part of efforts to deny criminal elements possible hideouts within the capital.

The operation was also aimed at improving security surveillance across locations considered vulnerable to criminal activities.
