You couldn’t make it up – grown men marching for the cause of saving women and children.
Men who turn out to be domestic abusers themselves.
The Record today details claims by two women of serial abuse they faced at the hands of Alan Miller, over years.
Miller’s track record reveals him to be more of a misogynist than a defender of women.
As his victims allege, it is him and others like him that women need protection from.
Miller is not the first and will not be the last of the far-right marchers to emerge as a threat to women.
The far-right, anti-immigration cause sadly stands as a flame for brutal, hate-filled moths like him.
Some of those who take to the streets seek to blame others for the problems of society. Perhaps to cover up their own deficiencies as human beings.
The Daily Record does not suggest that all of those who might attend such marches are racists or fascists.
But we can all see the destructive force of people like Tommy Robinson and the minions who imitate him north of the Border.
The constant spread of an anti-immigration narrative can permeate communities, particularly where poverty is rife. Decent people can fall into the trap of listening to the weasel words of men who make money through clicks on social media and subscriptions to their channels.
That’s why we will continue to challenge the lies and distortions that threaten to destabilise our communities.
People like Alan Miller need to be seen for the men they really are.
Next year’s council elections are crucial for the future of our public services.
Scots will vote to select the make-up of town halls and the priority given to local funds.
The rise of Reform UK could result in councillors for Nigel Farage’s party getting elected in every local authority. They could even hold the balance of power if parties fail to come together.
For this reason, we support Scottish Labour leadership contender Monica Lennon’s plan to lift her party’s ban on council coalitions.
Anas Sarwar implemented this ban at a time when politically he could not go near either the SNP or the Tories.
But Reform is a right-wing party and old differences must be put aside for the common good.
If Reform holds the levers of power, it will divide communities and pit Scot against Scot.
People deserve better than pointless posturing that will only help Farage.
