We’ve all been in that frustrating situation — you’re browsing the aisles of your local supermarket hunting for a specific item, only to discover that the last remaining one is perched right at the back of the shelf, completely out of reach. If you’re on the shorter side, you might sheepishly ask a taller stranger for assistance, or hunt down one of those little step stools some shops provide.

Well, one TikTok user has now blown the lid off a secret that’s been staring us in the face all along — and viewers are absolutely gobsmacked. Fitness coach Liam Wilson uploaded a clip to the platform with the caption: “I bet you didn’t know this.”

Filming himself inside a Tesco branch, standing in front of a shelf of bottled water, Liam opened with: “This is one for everybody that don’t know this trick.” The shelving unit behind him appeared largely bare, with just a handful of bottles pushed up against the back wall, frustratingly out of reach.

Liam continued: “If you go and try and get a bottle and can’t reach, all you’ve got to do is pull up this.” He then tugs on a small tab tucked behind the price label, uncovering a section of the shelf that lifts and slides forward, bringing the bottle right to the front with it, reports the Express.

“Boom,” Liam said. “I bet you did not know that. If you did, drop a comment below. If you didn’t, drop a comment below.”

Commenters were left completely stunned by the revelation. One wrote: “Thanks… I had no idea, I always asked someone taller to get it for me.”

Another chimed in: “I actually did know, but only because I asked a worker to grab me a bottle and watched him do it. Now I’m an independent woman!”

A third user commented: “I only knew this because my Mrs worked at Aldi for six years. I was as amazed as you and now I show everyone who I see struggling to get the ones at the back and they’re also gobsmacked.”

One shopper wrote: “I work in Tesco… didn’t know this.” While another declared: “Me going to Tesco rn (right now) to check.” Following up shortly after, they confirmed: “Update guys: It’s true yay.”

One frustrated commenter quipped: “Liam I’ve been 4ft 11ins for 20 years. Why would you only tell me this now?!” While someone else admitted: “Not me climbing up the shelves to get it.”

Another responded: “That’s actually top-tier information.” With one grateful shopper adding: “As a 5ft 2ins woman you’ve changed my life.”

To which another replied: “I usually stand on a shelf. This is BRAND NEW INFORMATION!”

One taller viewer offered a different perspective, writing: “As a tall person I quite like feeling important when people ask me to help them tho.”

While another gave a nod to the supermarket giant’s famous tagline, quipping: “Cheers mate, every little helps!”
