Wynne Evans is best known as the Welsh Opera singer from the GoCompare adverts who appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2024.

He finished 8th in the series, but was axed from the live tour following the show after it emerged he made “inappropriate comments” including a sexualised remark – which he has apologised for.

Following the scandal he was not only axed from the live tour, but also left his BBC Radio Wales show in 2025 after the broadcaster “decided not to renew” his contract last year. He has now announced in a new message to fans that he is unsure about where he will be living as he plans to hit the road with his dog and rent his house out.

“I’m renting my house out for six months. I fancied a change. I just fancied something different. So Ginny and I, we’re going on the open road,” he said in his story on Instagram, panning the camera over to his dog.

“We got a few things booked. A few holidays booked so we’ve got to head to those places. But yeah… come with us. I don’t know where we’re going to end up living. Going to stay in Cardiff for a bit.”

He added that it might not be the “wisest” move, but clarified that he did have work lined up while he was going to be away.

“I know in the next six months I’ve got a new job starting. In fact, I’ve got two new jobs. It’s going to be a crazy, crazy time. Probably not the wisest time to move out of your house but let’s do it,” he said energetically.

The singer has had two number one classical music albums, and as well as working on BBC Radio Wales, he has previously presented on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM, and won Celebrity MasterChef in 2023.

After the scandal about his language broke in 2024, he apologised on several occasions. “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise,” Evans told BBC News in a statement.

Since leaving the BBC, he has spoken out about Strictly and bashed the “fake friendships” he found on the series.

He wrote on social media in October 2025: “Here’s what I learnt from Strictly. If you think you’ve built a real connection, you haven’t. You’ve paid for their time – and once the cameras stop, so does the care. But here, it’s real. The people who listen, message, and laugh with me – you – are genuine. This isn’t showbiz, it’s community. And I’ll always choose that.”
