An “outstanding opportunity” for two people at a rural countryside estate has come up, and the successful candidates will receive their own cottage to live in. According to the job listing, the pair will become an “integral part of a welcoming and professional environment”.
A private family estate in Dumfries and Galloway is currently looking to hire a couple, with one being employed as an estate housekeeper and the other a private chef. The two positions come with a salary of £70,000, as well as a selection of perks and benefits.
One of the main benefits of the jobs is that the two successful candidates will receive an “attractive two-bedroom cottage” that is situated in its own grounds away from the main residences. According to the job listing, both utility bills and council tax will be included.
Other perks of the positions include “performance-related bonus opportunities”, a pension scheme, and dedicated use of a new Land Rover Defender. The couple will be working amidst the beautiful and lush surroundings of Dumfries and Galloway, with easy access to amenities in towns such as Dumfries and Stranraer.
The housekeeper will be responsible for the overall housekeeping and cleaning of the two properties, as well as laundry, ironing, and general household organisation. They will be expected to prepare the residences for family visits and guests, and also maintain the gym, swimming pool, sauna, bar area, and wine cellar.
Other responsibilities will include coordinating with contractors and service providers, assisting the estate manager and wider estate team as required, light gardening duties around staff accommodation, and caring for estate chickens. Additionally, the housekeeper will manage household supplies and inventories and ensure the properties remain secure and organised.

Meanwhile, the chef will plan and prepare meals for family visits and guests and deliver a range of dining experiences—from breakfasts and casual suppers to formal dining and dinner parties. They will also plan menus, source quality ingredients, and prepare and present food.
An additional task the successful applicants will be responsible for is managing a small classic car collection. This will involve vehicle presentation and cleaning, service scheduling and maintenance coordination, documentation and record keeping, and ensuring that vehicles remain ready for use.
When not working, there is lots to get up to around Dumfries and Galloway. From the Robert Burns Trail and the Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries to other attractions such as Drumlanrig Castle and the Rhins of Galloway, there is no shortage of things to see and do.
