Rubio blames ‘stupid people’ when questioned over Trump’s India comments
Marco Rubio arrives in India for four-day visit
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was confronted by an Indian reporter during his visit to New Delhi regarding racist remarks made against Indians in the US, following comments by Donald Trump describing India as a ‘hellhole’ which India’s government had previously denounced as inappropriate.
Rubio responded to the reporter’s query by stating that ‘every country in the world has stupid people’ who make ‘dumb comments all the time,’ without directly addressing the specific remarks or their endorsement.
During a gala reception in Delhi celebrating America’s independence, US ambassador Sergio Gor made a surprise call to Donald Trump, who spoke over speakerphone, expressing his love for India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Donald Trump affirmed strong US support for India, stating, ‘If they ever need help, they know who they call,’ and praised Modi, highlighting the close relationship between the two nations.
Rubio’s visit and Trump’s remarks occur as the US and India aim to repair relations strained by previous comments, tariff policies, and Washington’s growing ties with Pakistan, with Rubio inviting Modi to the White House to deepen trade and defence cooperation.
