Pope Leo XIV is set to release a major manifesto on artificial intelligence as the Vatican moves to address growing ethical and social concerns surrounding the fast-rising technology.
The document, titled Magnifica Humanitas, Magnificent Humanity, is expected to be unveiled on Monday, May 25, at the Vatican in Rome.
It will mark the Pope’s first major teaching focused on the impact of AI on human dignity, workers’ rights and society.
According to Vatican officials, “the manifesto will examine issues surrounding artificial intelligence, including the risks of autonomous warfare, mass surveillance, digital misinformation and the increasing influence of algorithms on human life”.
Pope Leo XIV has repeatedly warned about the dangers of allowing machines to make life and death decisions, stressing the need for technology to serve humanity rather than replace it.
