Reuben Ward has won Scotland’s third gold medal of the Commonwealth Games.
The 21-year-old has taken the top spot in gymnastics for the host nation.
Although Ward is from Bury, Greater Manchester, his parents hail from East Kilbride, and he considers the town a second home.
After securing gold with a score of 79.650 in the individual all-round event, Ward told the BBC: “Glasgow and East Kilbride have been like second homes to me my entire life so to do it here is incredibly special.
“I like to imagine the best scenario possible and that was winning. It kept me awake a little bit because I was picturing it and feeling the emotions. But this beat the expectations by a mile.”

However, celebrations will be on hold for a few days as Ward is also taking part in the in the floor, rings and pommel on Monday. He’s a particularly strong medal contender for pommel.
Ward said: “On Tuesday, after the competition, I’ll celebrate big time with the team, with my boys. I love them so much and them coming to see me at the end when I was going around of the arena was special.
“I’m hoping we’ll get to experience a bit of Glasgow.. “
