The racist yobs who shamed Glasgow during a weekend “protest” deserve nothing but widespread condemnation.

At a time when the eyes of the world are on the city for the Commonwealth Games, this ragtag mob of extremists decided to go on the rampage.

Their supposed motivation for the gathering was to “protect communities” and improve safety for women and girls.

But their true motivation was made perfectly clear by their actions, with some pictured making Nazi salutes.

This is odd as they claim to be British patriots – and many of their grandparents may have fought against Hitler’s demented brand of racist bile.

Others spent the afternoon simply targeting individuals going about their business in the city – purely based on the colour of their skin.

Today we report how one of the targets, takeaway driver Muhammad Jawad Yaqoob, was attacked by a mob of bullies while he was working.

A video shows him having objects hurled at him as he innocently tried to get on with his job, while masked-up cowards shouted “send them back”.

Now Muhammad has told the Record that he is too scared to leave the house.

This act alone tells you all you need to know about these so-called patriots.

Mob-handed, they pick on lone individuals in the most cowardly fashion while ordinary Scots go about their business.

Many of the protesters wrapped themselves in the Saltire of Scotland.

But at heart, there is nothing more to these individuals than racism based on stupidity and hatred.

Raising concerns about immigration is valid and there needs to be an honest debate about the issue.

And communities affected by mass immigration need far more support from Holyrood and Westminster.

But these numpties are not interested in finding grown-up solutions. They just want to attack vulnerable minorities.

They are an embarrassment – and their message of hate cannot be allowed to take root.

Standing up to hatred is also vital at national and international level.

That’s why new Prime Minister Andy Burnham deserves credit for restating the UK’s support for Ukraine.

Russian bully-boy Vladimir Putin has tried to destroy the country.

He has shown no regard for the lives of his own soldiers nor innocent people.

While US President Donald Trump gives tacit support to Putin, it is vital that other world leaders take the path of decency and democracy.

If Andy Burnham can find common cause with other European leaders in, he will have done the world a great service.
