Millie Bobbie Brown is set for a reunion with Stranger Things co-star David Harbour in a new Netflix spy thriller, it has been announced.

The news comes months after a report claimed that tensions had escalated between the pair during the making of Stranger Things, and that Brown had filed a harassment and bullying claim against Harbour ahead of the show’s final season. Both parties have disputed the report – with Harbour branding it “false” – and were seen interacting warmly at the series premiere event.

The untitled new series, created by Jack Thorne (Adolescence) will see Harbour play a disgraced former FBI agent who re-enters the world of espionage to help save his estranged daughter (Brown), also an FBI agent.

“We are delighted to bring this spy drama to life with an extraordinary group of talent we’ve been fortunate to collaborate with before,” says Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of scripted series in the US and Canada.

“Jack Thorne’s ability to find the deeply human story inside a thriller is unmatched, and watching Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour reunite – this time as estranged father and daughter on opposite sides of a crisis – is something audiences are going to love.”

Brown, who can next be seen in the Netflix sleuth sequel Enola Holmes 3, will also serve as a producer on the series, alongside Harbour.

Both actors had prominent roles in every season of Stranger Things, which became the streamer’s biggest ever series over the course of its run. Brown played Eleven, a teenage girl with superpowers, while Harbour played Hopper, the town sheriff.

Harbour recently addressed reports of a dispute between Brown and himself in an interview with Variety, stating that it was “a weird thing” that “came out in a weird way.”

“It’s a show that went on for 10 years. We worked together for 10 years during her formative teenage years, playing father and daughter,” he said. “I don’t know if people have families and friends that you spend a lot of time with for 10 years – you occasionally get in arguments, disagreements.

“In families, it’s OK because you’re just in a disagreement and then you come back together. The problem with a billion-dollar show is that there’s just hundreds of people who want to get involved.”

Brown also issued a statement in an email to the outlet.

“Obviously I changed so much from season one to season five,” she said, “and David was there through all of it. Over time, our relationship became much more collaborative creatively.

“When you work with someone for that many years, we could really push each other emotionally in scenes. Even though the series has ended, there’s still a lot of gratitude. Getting to share that experience with him for so many years is something I’ll always remember and value.”

A release date for the pair’s new project is yet to be announced.
