Military clears Niger national, Muhammad Zein-Nur of terrorist links

The Nigerian Army has cleared a Niger Republic national, Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi, of any affiliation with terrorist groups following a comprehensive investigation.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Mohammed Goni.

According to the statement, the clarification followed media reports published on July 14, 2026, concerning an individual intercepted by troops of the 68 Battalion during an exploitation operation after the attack at Cross Kauwa.

The military identified the individual as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi.

It explained that, given the prevailing security situation and the use of border corridors by terrorist elements for movement and logistics, troops acted in line with established operational procedures by taking him into custody for profiling and further investigation.

The statement noted that comprehensive intelligence assessments and other investigative processes found no evidence linking the individual to any known terrorist group.

It further revealed that investigations confirmed Zein-Nur is a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger, who engages in camel rearing beyond the River Komadougou.

Operation HADIN KAI said the individual has consequently been cleared of any terrorist links.

The Theatre Command reiterated that all persons intercepted under suspicious circumstances during military operations are subjected to due process and appropriate security screening to ensure innocent civilians are distinguished from terrorist elements.

It reaffirmed its commitment to denying terrorists freedom of action while upholding professionalism, respect for human rights and the rule of law.
