Meghan Markle reportedly dropped from Guy Ritchie series after ‘untenable’ backlash
- Former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown reported that Meghan Markle‘s prospective casting in Season 3 of Guy Ritchie‘s Netflix series “The Gentlemen” has been withdrawn.
- “I learned this morning that the casting of Meghan Markle in season 3 of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen has been withdrawn,” Brown — who is the author of two books about the Royal Family — wrote on her Substack Saturday. “The backlash in the UK was so intense, it became untenable to go forward,” she added.
- The role would have marked Meghan’s first major acting project since stepping away from the industry in 2017 after her engagement to Prince Harry.
- The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently revealed plans to relocate back to the U.K., a move reportedly inspired in part by the potential acting role.
- While Netflix has not officially greenlit Season 3, entertainment industry leaders say producers remain eager to work with Markle if she returns to acting.
