Madonna has urged fans to put down their phones at concerts, expressing frustration with the “persistent need” to document everything rather than experience the moment.
The singer shared her views during a screening of “Confessions II – The Film,” noting how a “sea of screens” at performances like Coachella detracts from the “deep tribal experience” of dancing.
Her new album, “Confessions II,” a sequel to her 2005 record “Confessions on a Dance Floor,” is set to be released on July 3, marking her first album in seven years.
Madonna previewed the album with a surprise performance in Times Square and kicked off Pride Month in New York with a six-song set featuring new material and fan favorites.
Other artists, including Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders and actress Rosamund Pike, have also voiced concerns about the increasing use of technology by audiences during live performances.
