Kwara PDP begins screening of aspirants Tuesday

The Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State has announced the commencement of its screening exercise for aspirants seeking to contest elective positions on the party’s platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said the exercise would begin on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in line with the timetable approved by the party’s national leadership.
In a statement issued on Monday by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Olusegun Adewara, the party said the screening process would cover aspirants for the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and governorship positions.
According to the statement, screening for aspirants seeking seats in the Kwara State House of Assembly will hold on Tuesday at the party secretariat in Ilorin from 9:00 a.m.
“The screening for House of Assembly aspirants who have successfully purchased the Nomination and Expression of Interest Forms will hold on Tuesday, 12th May, 2026, at the Party Secretariat, Ilorin, by 9:00am prompt,” the statement read.
The party further disclosed that aspirants contesting for the House of Representatives and Senate positions would be screened on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the party secretariat in Ilorin.
“Screening for Federal House of Representatives and Senate Aspirants will take place on Wednesday, 13th May, 2026, at the Party Secretariat, Ilorin,” the statement added.
It also revealed that governorship aspirants would undergo screening on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
“Gubernatorial Aspirants Screening is scheduled to hold on Thursday, 14th May, 2026, at the Wadata Plaza, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory,” the party stated.
The PDP urged all aspirants to appear before the screening panels with the relevant documents required for verification and ratification.
According to the party, the documents include duly completed Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, valid means of identification, academic credentials, birth certificate or declaration of age, recent passport photographs, party membership card and evidence of payment for forms and party dues.
Other requirements listed include tax clearance certificates for the last three years, a letter of indigeneship, proof of financial capacity and two copies of completed forms for submission.
“The Party emphasises strict compliance with the above requirements, as only duly screened and qualified aspirants will proceed in the electoral process,” the statement noted.
The party said the exercise formed part of its commitment to transparent and democratic internal processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Kwara PDP reiterated its resolve to ensure the emergence of competent and widely accepted candidates for all elective positions in the state.
The development comes as political parties across the country begin consultations and internal preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
