JD Vance claims Watergate scandal would be a ‘12-hour news story’ in 2026
Vance says it’s ‘crazy’ that Watergate ‘took down a presidency’
JD Vance stated that he believes the Watergate scandal would not lead to a president’s downfall if it occurred today.
Speaking at the Richard Nixon presidential library in Yorba Linda, California, on Thursday, June 25, Vance suggested the event would be a “12-hour news story’.”
He remarked that “The idea that it would have taken down a presidency is crazy” in the current climate.
Watergate, considered the 20th century’s biggest political scandal, began in 1972 with operatives linked to Nixon’s re-election campaign planting listening devices.
The scandal ultimately culminated in President Nixon’s resignation in 1974.
