An Iranian attack on an air base in Kuwait has left several Americans injured amid soaring tensions as peace talks aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East appear to have stalled.

The Iranian ballistic missile was intercepted and destroyed but falling debris caused injuries to contractors and active duty personnel.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump had a meeting with top aides on Friday to make a “final determination” about a framework for extending the ceasefire with Iran, but it concluded without an announcement.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has said the country is ready to restart attacks on Iran if a deal cannot be reached.

Foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei has said the US and Tehran failed to come to a peace deal yesterday.

Main stiking points to an agreement include not only nuclear weapons, but the Strait of Hormuz. The global shipping route has effectively been closed by Iran since the war broke out on February 28, which saw the US retaliate by forming its own blockade across the Strait.

“It’s hard to say exactly when or if the president’s going to sign,” Vance told reporters.

He added: “We’re going back and forth on a couple of language points.”
