I absolutely hate being too hot, so the springtime heatwave is quite welcome, but with the current heatwave, I’ve found a cooling solution. I was given the chance to test out the TurboCool™ Misting Fan 516S by Dreo, and I wasn’t ready for how much of a game-changer this was going to be.

It was originally £99.99, but on Amazon it’s dropped down to £84.99 for the time being. The misting feature is incredible for cooling me down.

During the current heatwave, I used this after running around the house tidying up, and it cooled me down in seconds. When the mist is in use, I can see it spraying out, and it feels incredible when I am in front of it.

In the past, I’ve sometimes found setting up fans to be quite a faff, but this couldn’t have been easier. There are very clear instructions on setting it up, so I filled the water tank, screwed the lid back on and plugged it in.

That’s all it took to get the fan actually working. There were a couple more steps for the smart features, but I couldn’t believe how easy they were.

This smart fan cools rooms quickly and is compatible with Alexa and Google Home

The instructions have a QR code that took me straight to the app. I was signed up in under 60 seconds, and it recognised that the misting fan was in the house. You do need your WiFi password handy, but I just copied it over from my phone’s WiFi settings.

It was done in under two minutes. This fan is Alexa compatible too, so as well as requesting the Amazon personal assistant to adjust music and lights, and I can bow fiddle with the temperature, keeping rooms cool from afar.

I was asked which room I’m keeping the fan in, and while it’s currently based in my living room, I can see it making its way up to my bedroom to keep cool nights going all summer. I was quite smug, telling Alexa to turn it off and watching it listen immediately. Between the remote, app and voice commands, this fan couldn’t be more accessible to me.

There’s also a schedule setting in the DREO app, which I’ve found myself using – this means I can make sure my bedroom has already started to cool down before I go up to bed, and that the fan is on during the morning when it’s time to wake up.

Since water is used, there are clear cleaning instructions inside. I imagine it could get a little bit murky after a while. Fortunately, the app provides a reminder of when the water tank needs cleaning to avoid bacterial growth.

It’s advised to clean the tank every 100 hours of use. The misting setting has to be turned on, and I’ve only used the mist feature for two hours at the moment, which means I’ve not had to change the tank.

I also have a Dyson Purifier Hot+Cool HP1 Purifying fan heater (£549.95), but it eats through so much electricity that I try to avoid using it too much. I find the misting fan actually does a better job of cooling me down as well, although it doesn’t have a purifying feature.

Shark also has the FlexBreeze HydroGo Cordless Fan, which is now reduced from £129.99 to £89 on Amazon, which does have the portability advantage, although this does mean it could run out of battery right when you need it.

One thing I am wary of is using my DREO fan in my home library, as I worry that too much humidity could damage my books in the long run. That said it can be turned off, and I find the fan itself is very powerful

Overall, though, I’m thrilled with this fan. I particularly love the smart features, as I can start to cool my house down from my phone before I get home. It’s so good that I might have to get a second so I can keep upstairs cool during the hot summer days.
