Rivers State Governor Siminanayi Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, has said the governor remains focused on governance and infrastructure development.

He described claims that Fubara had abandoned projects as attempts to discredit the governor.

This comes amid fresh criticism from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who accused Fubara of prioritising second-term politics over governance and the passage of the 2026 budget.

Wike, during his media chat in Abuja on Wednesday, also accused the governor of reneging on an alleged agreement not to seek re-election following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the political crisis that rocked the state.

However, Nzeshi dismissed Wike’s claims as false, saying his principal has continued to prioritise governance.

Nzeshi, who spoke on a radio programme, Nigeria Info 92.3 FM in Port Harcourt and was monitored by Saturday PUNCH on Friday, insisted that the governor had continued to execute and inspect critical infrastructure projects across the state.

“It is not correct to say that the governor has been more focused on politics than governance. If anybody says that, it means that person is not on ground. Fubara has been going around every part of the state,” he said.

“So, it will be wrong for anybody to say the governor has been busy plotting 2027 instead of doing his job.”

He also dismissed claims that Fubara had abandoned projects in the state, saying the governor inherited 12 major road projects from the previous administration, all of which he said had reached about 90 per cent completion.

The governor’s spokesperson urged residents of the state to disregard what he described as attempts to discredit the governor.
