Flood have submerged the Delta State High Court in Agbarho community in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

Also submerged were the abodes of residents as well as business premises with several properties destroyed in several Agbarho sub clans which includes Orhokpokpor, Ehwere, Ughrwughelli and Oviri communities.

The flood came after an overnight rain on Thursday night which lasted till Friday morning of July 31.

Drainages were overwhelmed by the heavy downpour which disrupted economic activities and restricted movements in the town.

Residents woke up to see their homes flooded, furniture, electrical appliances, food items, clothes and other valuables destroyed.

Shop owners were forced to suspend business activities as a result of the ravaging flood while motorists and pedestrians struggled to navigate the submerged roads.

Meanwhile, residents have attributed the recurring flooding to lack of drainage systems and blocked waterways.

They explained that the absence of drainages and the blocking of waterways have continued to worsen the impact of heavy rainfall in the area.

“We woke up to find our entire house flooded. We hurriedly moved our belongings, but many valuable items had already been destroyed. This has become an annual nightmare, and urgent action is needed,” a resident lamented.

A trader whose shop was affected described the incident as a major setback, noting that several goods were destroyed by the flood, resulting in significant financial losses.
