FG unveils Borno fertility centre

The Federal Government has unveiled a fertility care centre and maternity complex built by the Northeast Development Commission inside the premises of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

The solar-powered facility contains medical equipment, including an intracytoplasmic sperm injection machine, incubators, oxygen concentrators, Spermifuge, laboratory equipment and furniture, among others.

Addressing journalists shortly after the unveiling on Tuesday, in Maiduguri, the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Ahmadu, said the construction of the facility will prevent people from travelling out of the state and the region to seek healthcare.

He noted, “What we just witnessed is the commissioning of a world class fertility centre. The equipment you see in this building are the best you can find anywhere in the world”

Ahmadu pointed out that President Bola Tinubu through the North East Development Commission has continue to demonstrate strong commitment to the development of the North East region.

“Mr President has continued to invest heavy amount through this agency (North East Development Commission) to all the sectors. This is one component of the NEDC intervention in the health sector,” he stated.

“The MD, Muhammed Alkali has previously stressed that there are many other parts which include pharma-grade drug storage facility across the states of the Northeast” The minister added.

While commending the Borno State Government, Ahmadu called on residents to continue to support the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

He emphasised, “The least we expect from citizen, having solved this critical problem that would have taken them out of their natural environment to far places to seek medical attention is to support the government.

“We want to thank the Borno state government and the good people of Borno.  I want to use this opportunity to implore all the citizens to do their part as we gradually move into campaign and elections” he further remarked.

Earlier, the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum commended the Ministry of Regional Development and the North East Development Commission for prioritising investment in the health care sector in  the region.

Zulum recalled, “Recently, the NEDC procured modern MRI machines and CT scans to almost all the tertiary health facilities in North East sub-region at the cost of about 70 billion naira. This is a huge amount that was invested into the health sector. I want to assure them that the governors of the Northeast states will continue to support them.

“On behalf of the good people of Borno State, I want to commend the Minister of State for Regional Development,

and North East Development Commission for a job well done,” the governor remarked.
