Ex-Premier League official demands new corner rule after West Ham-Arsenal VAR incident
How the biggest VAR decision yet might have won Arsenal the Premier League title
Former Premier League official Darren Cann has proposed a new rule to ban attacking players from the six-yard box before corner kicks.
This suggestion follows West Ham‘s disallowed goal against Arsenal, which was ruled out for a foul on goalkeeper David Raya during a corner.
Cann, a former assistant referee, believes the change would reduce ‘grappling’ and ‘wrestling’ in the penalty area, providing goalkeepers with more space.
He stated that such a rule would create natural separation and eliminate endless debates over physical play during set-pieces.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised the match officials for their ‘brave’ decision to disallow the goal, calling it an ‘obvious error’.
