Ex-CIA officer accused of stealing 300 gold bars, cash and luxury watches
Former CIA officer accused of stealing $40M in gold bars and stashing them at home
A former senior CIA official, David Rush, has been accused of stealing over $40 million worth of gold bars from the federal government.
Rush was arrested last week in Virginia and charged with criminal theft of public money, according to court filings.
An FBI affidavit alleges that between November and March, Rush requested and received “tens of millions of dollars in gold bars for work-related expenses.”
Federal officials searched his home on May 18, seizing more than 300 gold bars, approximately $2 million in US currency, and 35 luxury watches.
The FBI investigation also found that Rush allegedly lied for years about his education and military background, falsely claiming to be a Navy pilot and a graduate of two universities.
