El-Rufai’s ex-aides, allies return to APC, back Uba Sani for 2027

Some political associates and former allies of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared their support for Governor Uba Sani ahead of the 2027 elections.

Those reportedly joining the governor’s political camp include Bashir Saidu, who served as El-Rufai’s Chief of Staff, and Abdu Kwari, a former commissioner and senator in the state.

Others include Nasir Abdullahi Maikano, former Kaduna State chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and a three-term member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, who represented Ungwan Sanusi Constituency.

Moukhtar Isa Hazo, a former Deputy Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, is also said to be part of the group, alongside other grassroots politicians from across the state.

The development comes as political alliances continue to shift in Kaduna ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The return of the politicians to the APC could strengthen Uba Sani’s position within the party, especially as different political camps begin to prepare for the elections.

The politicians had previously been linked to El-Rufai’s political camp, making their decision to support the incumbent governor significant.

A former Kaduna State commissioner, Jafaru Ibrahim Sani, confirmed the development to DAILY POST, and said the politicians had decided to move together.

“It’s true, we are going together with them,” he said.

The latest move is expected to generate further political debate in Kaduna as politicians and their supporters continue to reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

It could also alter the balance of political influence between the different groups within and outside the APC in the state.
