Cooking gas price update in Nigeria as crude climbs

Nigeria’s liquefied petroleum gas, LPG, popularly known as cooking gas, has remained fairly stable in price since July 2026 amid volatility in crude oil prices.

DAILY POST reports that cooking gas prices in May and June 2026 rose to as high as N2,000 per kilogram from around N1,200 per kilogram across major cities in Nigeria, including Abuja and Lagos.

However, increased imports of LPG since June and Dangote Refinery’s price reduction have caused cooking gas prices to drop significantly over the last two months.

A market survey by DAILY POST showed that Dangote Refinery and depot owners such as NavGas, 11 PLC (formerly Mobil) and Ranoil dispense LPG at between N945 and N960 per kilogram. However, A.Y.M. Shafa depot increased its LPG price by N15 to N1,055 per kilogram.

Cooking gas retailers in Abuja and its environs, such as Ranoil, Nigerian Independent Petroleum, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and A.Y.M. Shafa, sell LPG at between N1,250 and N1,450 per kilogram. Similarly, micro-retailers dispense LPG at N1,500 per kilogram.

Recall that barely four days ago, Dangote Refinery and marketers reduced their LPG prices.

Meanwhile, the recent upsurge in crude oil prices to around $94 per barrel has further heightened price anxiety in the petroleum market.
