  • Research by the University of East Anglia and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital reveals that choosing stairs over lifts significantly reduces the risk of premature death.
  • A review of five studies involving over 450,000 participants found that regular stair climbers had a 39 per cent lower risk of dying from cardiovascular problems and a 24 per cent reduced chance of death from any cause.
  • The findings, published in the American Journal of Cardiovascular Drugs, indicate that stair climbing helps shield against strokes, heart failure and heart attacks.
  • Experts noted that climbing just six flights of stairs, or 60 steps, a day offers health benefits, providing a practical way to incorporate exercise into daily routines.
  • The Stroke Association highlighted that simple daily physical activity, alongside monitoring blood pressure and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, can help prevent strokes and early death.
