Bauchi Police arrest two suspected cattle rustlers, recover N1.7m bulls

The Bauchi State Police Command has said it arrested two suspected cattle rustlers and recovered three stolen bulls valued at N1.73 million in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to combat cattle rustling and other property-related crimes across the state.
Habib said operatives of the Alkaleri Police Division arrested the suspects following credible intelligence.
He identified the suspects as Umaru Adamu, also known as Balawo, aged 40 years old, and Haruna Usman, alias Dotti, aged 30 years old, both of Dawo Village in Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State.
According to him, “The Command, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Umaru Adamu alias Balawo, male, being a 40-year-old, and Haruna Usman alias Dotti, male, being a 30-year-old, both of Dawo Village, Kwami LGA, Gombe State, on July 19, 2026.
“During the operation, the suspects were found in possession of three bulls valued at N1,730,000.00, suspected to have been stolen.”
The police spokesperson said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects obtained the cattle from two other suspects who are currently at large.
He added that the fleeing suspects, who are from the same community, are believed to be the habitual cattle rustlers terrorising communities along the Bauchi-Gombe border.
Habib said, “Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that efforts be intensified to track and arrest the fleeing accomplices. The suspects are currently in custody, and the case is under investigation. The recovered cattle have been secured as exhibits.”
He noted that the command remained committed to ridding the state of criminal elements and thus, urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to the police to aid crime prevention and investigation.
