Bandits kill Niger monarch, sibling of Tinubu’s agriculture minister

Suspected bandits have allegedly killed the Village Head of Galla in Borgu Emirate, Niger State, following an attack on his palace.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Sources said the traditional ruler was attacked and killed after reportedly warning  the bandits to stay away from his community.

The sources said the warning was allegedly taken as an insult by the bandits, who later attacked the traditional ruler in his palace.

The deceased is said to be the brother of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.

When contacted, spokesperson of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would get back with details.

However, as of the time of filing this report, the police spokesperson had yet to provide an official statement on the incident.

The development has heightened concerns over the security situation in parts of Borgu Emirate, which has witnessed an escalation of banditry and other security threats in recent times.
