Alleged drug trafficking: Tinubu forged US Embassy letter – Lobbying firm alleges

A United States-based political advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu and his associates forged the US Embassy letter that appreciated him for fighting insecurity.

Von Batten-Montague-York made the allegation in a statement posted on its verified X handle on Wednesday.

The allegation came after the circulation of a letter said to have been issued through the US Embassy in Nigeria and referenced by Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, to defend Tinubu against claims surrounding his records in the United States.

The firm raised questions over the document’s authenticity, pointing to what it described as several glaring spelling, grammatical and formatting errors in the purported official correspondence.

Among the errors identified were words such as “czheck” instead of “check” and “maitatins” instead of “maintains”.

The firm also questioned the use of “it’s territories” instead of “its territories”, as well as the sentence, “The result of the checks were negative,” which it argued should read “The result of the check was negative.”

According to the firm, other phrases flagged included “nor information of your department” and “contact me direct” instead of “contact me directly.”

The firm further stated that the errors made it difficult to accept the document as an authentic communication from a US government institution without independent verification.

This followed renewed attention to Tinubu’s historical records in the United States, following an ongoing legal battle over the release of records held by US federal agencies.

Recall that Omokri recently argued that Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, records relating to Tinubu, should not automatically be interpreted as criminal records, adding that a distinction existed between ordinary FBI records and criminal records.

Omokri also referred to a purported letter from the FBI transmitted through the US Embassy in Lagos to the Nigerian government.

Reacting, the US-based firm questioned the credibility of the purported correspondence and called for independent verification before it could be accepted as an authentic US government document.

It warned that if a document presented as an official communication from the US government were found to have been fabricated, the matter could potentially carry serious legal consequences under US law.

“Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and his associates are, as expected, spreading stories and documents to cloud the matter. For example, the letter below is alleged by President Tinubu’s associate Reno Omokri to be from the US Embassy in Nigeria.

“If authentic, given the recent admission of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, it raises questions about whether a US agency provided inaccurate information.

“But a close examination raises questions about the letter’s authenticity. It contains glaring spelling and grammatical errors.

“Given these errors, we find it very difficult to accept this letter as authentic without independent verification. Dear President Tinubu and associates: if this document is not authentic, presenting a fabricated document as an official US government communication is a serious matter and may have legal consequences under US law,” the firm tweeted.
