Albanian prime minister breaks silence on Jared Kushner-backed luxury development
Giant crowds clash with police in Albanian protests over Ivanka’s plan to build on protected island
Albanian Prime MinisterEdi Rama has defended a controversial luxury development linked to Jared Kushner, son-in-law of Donald Trump, after protests across the country have been growing.
The project, which includes hotels, apartments, villas, and a yacht marina, is planned for the Narta Lagoon area, a vital wildlife reserve, and Sazan Island.
Rama defends the development as crucial for economic transformation and attracting international investment, dismissing environmental concerns as “misinformation.”
Critics highlight that land clearing has begun in the nature reserve despite Rama admitting a formal environmental impact assessment has not yet started, prompting an anti-corruption investigation.
Kushner’s investment firm received special investor status after he expressed interest in Albanian investment following a dinner with Rama and his wife, Ivanka Trump.
