The Daily Record has reported a series of alarming incidents at Edinburgh Airport in recent years many of them linked to alcohol abuse. Last month social media influencer Ellie Cramspie from Glasgow was jailed for 16 months at Edinburgh Sheriff Court for smuggling £150,000 of cannabis through Edinburgh Airport.
Crampsie was found to have more than 37lb of the Class B drug stuffed into a suitcase as she travelled home from a holiday in Thailand in April last year. In February a man who sexually assaulted a woman on board an EasyJet flight from Naples to Edinburgh was jailed for six years.
Nicola Cristiano, 45, carried out the assault during a late evening flight on May 2025, after moving seats to be next to his victim. He was found guilty of attempted rape following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Drunken mum Michaela Hawe caused chaos on a Jet2 holiday flight from Edinburgh to Turkey in October 2024 which was forced to land in Germany, where Hawes, 36, from Dundee, was arrested by police.
In January she was sentenced to a six-month supervision order at Edinburgh Sheriff Court and told she must also attend an alcohol misuse service.

Last December a builder who sexually assaulted four Jet2 cabin crew during a holiday flight was jailed for 46 months and placed on the sex offenders register.
Joseph McCabe, 40, from Glasgow, groped and slapped two air stewards’ buttocks before grabbing a third by the waist and trying to hug a fourth. His behaviour forced the Edinburgh to Tenerife plane to be diverted.

In 2023, an oil and gas worker was caught on camera abusing female airport staff in a foulmouthed rant. The man was blocked from boarding a flight at Edinburgh Airport after his gate closed.
Police Scotland said the man was issued with a warning following the incident.
