Four dead as Russian soldier goes on shooting rampage targeting civilians in Crimea

  • A Russian soldier carried out a shooting rampage in the village of Khmelnytske, Russian-occupied Crimea, killing four people and injuring three others.
  • The soldier first opened fire on his colleagues, killing one and wounding another, before targeting civilians, resulting in the deaths of three individuals: two men aged 71 and 59, and a 64-year-old woman.
  • Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-installed governor of the Sevastopol region, confirmed the attacker’s arrest and stated that medical personnel are providing care to the wounded.
  • The motive for the attack remains unclear, with officials indicating that all circumstances and causes of the incident are currently under investigation.
  • The incident took place in Crimea, a strategically important and heavily militarised peninsula annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014, which is frequently subjected to Ukrainian drone and missile strikes.
