2027 presidency: Nothing wrong with Tinubu, Atiku digging each other’s criminal records – Sam Amadi

The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Dr Sam Amadi, has stated that there is nothing wrong with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, and his African Democratic Congress, ADC, counterpart, Atiku Abubakar, scrutinising each other’s criminal or public service histories.

As the 2027 presidential election approaches, Atiku and the incumbent president have been embroiled in a war of words, making various allegations against each other.

Atiku has leveled multiple accusations against Tinubu, including claims that the president is approximately 90 years old.

He is also reportedly leading efforts to investigate Tinubu’s past concerning allegations of involvement with illegal substances in the United States.

Conversely, the Tinubu administration has recently revived longstanding corruption allegations against Atiku, particularly from his tenure as the country’s vice president.

Nevertheless, Dr Amadi believes that there is nothing inappropriate about Tinubu or Atiku examining each other’s criminal or public service records, emphasising that this is a fundamental aspect of politics.

He told Arise News: “We shouldn’t over-sanitise politics in a way that prevents us from talking about policies. Politicians don’t operate in isolation.

“Leadership outcomes are not simply a function of policies; they are first a function of character and competence, and then policy. Even the best policy will fail under corrupt and incompetent leadership.”
