2027: Many Northern govs can’t campaign due to poor performance — Kwankwaso

The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has said many governors in Northern Nigeria would find it difficult to campaign ahead of the 2027 elections due to what he described as their poor performance in office.

Kwankwaso made the assertion on Thursday at a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

He also said it would be a huge mistake for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to believe it cannot lose an election because of the number of governors it has.

“A sitting president has lost an election before. I’m telling you this because of those who think they cannot lose an election because they have over 30 governors.

“It’s a very big mistake, especially for those in the northern part of Nigeria who have performed woefully to the extent that it’s difficult for them to come out to campaign. People are very angry; insecurity is everywhere,” he said.

The NDC vice-presidential candidate also criticised the management of public funds by state governors and the Federal Government, saying the country had received significantly higher revenues than in previous years.

Recalling his experience as governor in 1999, Kwankwaso said states and local governments received about N4 billion each at the time.
