The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 9 Police Headquarters, Umuahia, AIG Nwonyi P. Emeka, has tasked police personnel to uphold the ethical standards of the force and respect human rights while discharging their duties.
The AIG gave the charge as he embarked on an operational tour of the Imo State Command to assess operational activities, review the security situation and provide strategic direction towards strengthening security across the state.
The AIG, while on the visit, was received by the State Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, in the company of the command’s management team, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers.
Others included Heads of Department, Tactical Team Commanders, other officers, members of the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, Imo State Chapter, and the Police Officers’ Wives Association, POWA.

Earlier in his address, CP Bosso briefed the AIG on the security situation in the state, operational activities, achievements and challenges confronting the command.
He highlighted the importance of intelligence-led policing, proactive deployment, inter-agency collaboration and community engagement in strengthening security across the state.
Addressing the officers, AIG Emeka charged them to uphold professionalism, discipline, integrity and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
He cautioned against unsafe handling and improper use of firearms, corruption, extortion, indiscipline and improper dressing.
The AIG also emphasised punctuality, respect for the rule of law and fundamental human rights, and civility towards members of the public.
As part of the tour, the AIG paid a courtesy visit to the State Council of Traditional Rulers, where he was received by the Chairman, Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Community Policing, His Royal Majesty, Eze E.C. Okeke, who is also Chairman of the South-East Council of Traditional Rulers, alongside other traditional rulers.
The AIG appreciated the traditional institution for its support and tasked stakeholders to continue supporting the police with timely and actionable information in the fight against crime.
In his response, Eze Okeke reaffirmed the commitment of the traditional rulers to supporting security agencies in maintaining peace across the state.
The engagement, according to the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, provided an opportunity to strengthen existing collaboration between the police and traditional rulers in the fight against crime.
Commenting on the AIG’s visit, Okoye maintained that it underscored the shared commitment of Zone 9 Police Headquarters and the State Police Command to professional policing, effective security operations and stronger engagement with stakeholders in the interest of the people of the state.
The State Police Command took the AIG on a tour of some operational facilities of the command across the state.
Representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee and Police Officers’ Wives Association, while welcoming the AIG, reaffirmed their continued support for the force and community security efforts.
