Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, Sam Amadi, said Governor Hope Uzodinma  advised him against running for governorship position in Imo State in 2014.

Amadi also revealed that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi, also discouraged him from contesting for a Senate seat, warning that the process would be marred by violence and “evil”.

The former NERC boss made the disclosure in a post shared on his Facebook page on Wednesday while reflecting on his political ambitions and the challenges of Nigeria’s electoral system.

According to him, Obi told him not to contest for the Senate because of the violence associated with elections.

He also recalled a similar conversation with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma in 2014.

Despite the warnings, Amadi declared his intention to contest for the governorship, insisting he would not be deterred.

He wrote: “The violent shall end by violence.

“In 2014, Senator Hope Uzodinma, now Governor Hope Uzodinma told me “Sam, you know you ought to be Governor of Imo State, but you cannot do the things we do”.

“In 2026, Mr. Peter Obi, reacting to wide call for me to run for Senate, told me “Sam, do not run. It will be very violent. You are a good man. You cannot do the evil they do. I know how evil they are”.

“But I will run for Governor, evil or no evil.

“The violent shall end by violence.”
