Yan Diomande wants to join Paris Saint-Germain this summer if he leaves RB Leipzig, handing Liverpool a significant blow in their search for a successor to Mohamed Salah.
The Ivory Coast star has become one of Europe’s most sought-after attackers following a stunning season with Leipzig, who acquired the 19-year-old from Leganes last summer. Diomande’s suitors know it will take a significant sum to prise him away from Germany, though, with Leipzig determined not to sell their prized asset for less than €130million (£112.1m).
Liverpool have been heavily linked with Diomande as they prepare to refresh their attack following the departure of the iconic Salah.
However, PSG is Diomande’s chosen destination should a transfer away from Leipzig materialise this summer, according to The Athletic.
It’s understood that the talented teenager believes the project in Paris gives him the best opportunity to compete not only for major trophies but also the possibility of a future Ballon d’Or triumph.
Diomande’s preference will likely evoke feelings of disappointment at Anfield given their admiration for a player who accrued 12 goals and a further nine assists across the 33 matches he played in the Bundesliga last season.
It emerged earlier this month that Liverpool had communicated they were willing to propose a package worth €100m (£86.8m) for Diomande’s services, only to be informed that would fall some way short of Leipzig’s demands.
The Reds are about to embark on a new era under Andoni Iraola, who was promptly named as the club’s head coach after Arne Slot was sacked last month.
