It’s a cynical foul on Afif by the Canadian, who stops the Qatar forward in his tracks as he rushes goalward. He concedes a free kick in a dangerous area in the process, but it ultimately comes to naught.

Canada have started off on the front foot, already piling the pressure on the Qatar defence and keeper. Ahmed finds David at the back post with the Juventus striker forcing a low save from Abunada to prevent the hosts from taking an early lead.

Mehmic may have just made a name for himself up the other side of the pitch, but he’s had a howler in his own box there.

The defender completely mistimes his and brings down Sow, with the referee immediately pointing to the spot.

Aaron MorrisToday21:56 BST

Kobel is equal to the initial threat from a Bosnia corner, only for the ball to fall to Mahmic at the edge of his area.

The youngster thwacks it first time from past a floundering Kobel to eat into Switzerland’s lead. However, it’s far too little, too late for a comeback now.

Switzerland 3-1 Bosnia & Herzegovina

Xhaka once again pulling the strings, setting off Vargas behind the line. The fast forward then squares it to Manzambi, who buries it past Vasilj to make it 3-0.

This is getting out of hand now…

Vargas is left unmarked at the back of the box and makes Bosnia pay the price for their error. Embolo selflessly lays the Sevilla winger up for a first-time finish with his right-foot, and that SHOULD be all she wrote.

Switzerland 2-0 Bosnia & Herzegovina

Aaron MorrisToday21:42 BST

Muharemovic brings down Embolo on the break as the last man on the edge of his area, failing to win the ball.

The referee reaches into his pocket and provides a red card for the foul – Bosnia left with a mountain to climb should they hope to get anything from this game.

Talk about an instant impact from the bench…

Vargas stands the ball up in the centre of the box for Manzambi, who drives it past Vasilj with a first time volley.

You simply don’t save those!!!

No bonus points for predicting that the hydration break is being met with boos by the Bosnian support in Los Angeles – especially considering Dedic just tested Kobel with an absolute rocket from the egde of the area.

The Dortmund shot-stopper was equal to the effort, but spilled it into the middle of his box due to the pace – before it was quickly cleared by his defence. Hopefully there’s not ANOTHER shift of momentum in the game after the pause in play.

Michelle Wu said she put on traffic cone on the Bill Russell statue outside the city halls after Scotland’s World Cup visit.

The Boston mayor said: “I think we may see some lingering traditions from their visit, and I have to admit I also put a cone on Bill Russell’s head outside today. It’s been fun. I mean, the cones are pretty fun.

She added: “I think that it’s such a sense of playful, joyful surprise when you can see that happening. We do need cones that need to be in the right place to stay in the right place, so we need to find additional cones for that, but it’s just a sense of joy everywhere.”

Speaking to A Bola, Peter Schmeichel said: “Roberto Martínez has to be one of the most disappointing coaches of this World Cup so far. He wasted Belgium’s golden generation, and now it seems the same thing is happening with Portugal.”

It looks to be a controlled and patient approach from Switzerland, who have been happy enough holding onto the ball and taking their chances carefully. Bosnia, meanwhile, seem to be banking on a quicker and more fluid strategy, attempting to hit their opponents on the counter.

Neither side has managed to make a difference in the first-half, as it remains all square at the interval.

It was always going to be an easy collection for Kobel when Memic failed to catch the ball clean from the edge of the Swiss area.

It’s still 0-0 in Los Angeles.
