For those who love a bargain, few things beat the excitement of an incredible discovery. That’s precisely what happened to one woman who unearthed a “super special” treasure while rummaging through a charity shop.
The shopper, known as @little.beach.sews on social media, hit “charity shop gold” after spotting a vintage Wombles duvet cover priced at just £3.50. Rather than putting it on her bed, though, she plans to transform the double-sided duvet cover into the “puffiest, floatiest, Wombles-themed summer dress”. She said: “It was only £3.50, and a woman in the shop saw me pick it up and was like, ‘Oh, you should put that on Vinted’. I am the one looking for this stuff on Vinted.
“I am the one paying potentially £20 for something like this on Vinted because someone’s found it in a charity shop for £3.50.
“So no, I am going to keep it, and it is going to become the Wombling summer dress of my dreams. And on that note, have a Wombling Merry Day. Everything I do is probably going to be Womble-themed now.”
Delighted for her, one user commented on her post: “This duvet cover is one of my most treasured possessions! There I was on the eve of my seventh birthday, snuggled under my candlewick bedspread.
“My mum managed to change the bed around me and I awoke under this wonderful new-fangled thing called a duvet!
“I loved it instantly. I still am a huge Womble and recycle huge amounts of plastic for a friend’s company. I lost the pillowcase some years ago, but my sister managed to find me one on eBay.
“I can’t wait to see what you make of it! Although I could never take the scissors to mine!”
Another user added: “I found an Emma Bridgewater double duvet cover set the other week. £4.50! Perfect condition. My daughter has it in her spare room. Bargain.”
A third user said: “More like £50 on Vinted. How brilliant!” One more user added: “I have been looking for a Wombles duvet for forever. I’m super jealous.”
On eBay, a 1998 The Wombles duvet cover is currently listed for £68, with the description reading: “Fantastic nostalgia for any Wombles fan and perfect for your children’s bed to share your childhood memories with them.”
