A woman was horrified to learn she’d been dating a registered sex offender, after the couple were turned away at Turkish border control.
Warehouse worker Daniel Greaves, 34, from Ladysmith Road in Grimsby, had never told his new girlfriend about his sickening past: four offences of sexual communication with a child committed two years earlier.
Greaves was given a two‐year community order at Grimsby Crown Court in December 2024 and placed on the Sex Offenders Register, along with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order banning him from being alone with under‐16s, Grimsby Live reports.
But he admitted breaching the order twice this year. Prosecutor Craig Lowe said Greaves joined his girlfriend and two children for lunch at a pub in January, and in February went to a circus, where he was left unsupervised with two children.

The couple went out again in February for a trip to the circus, where Greaves was left alone with two children while the woman used the toilet. Mr Lowe said the couple encountered problems entering Turkey during a holiday abroad.
It was at this point that his girlfriend became aware of his previous convictions and subsequently alerted police. Mr Lowe said: “He had not told anyone about his convictions and he was a registered sex offender.”
The original offences related to communications with decoys set up by paedophile hunters pretending to be 13-year-old girls and a 14-year-old girl. He dispatched messages requesting photos and proposing they meet.
In one exchange, he suggested sharing a shower and told one of the decoys he could have sex with her. Michele Stuart-Lofthouse, representing Greaves, stated her client had penned a letter to the judge conveying his “true remorse.”
She noted there had been no harm caused during the outings with the youngsters, which took place in public locations. Judge Richard Woolfall remarked that Greaves had been “extremely fortunate” he had not been charged with a more serious offence for the 2023 communications.

The judge explained that a stipulation of the court order prohibited any contact with anyone under 16 years. “You were discussing with your probation officer that you were in a relationship and going on a date.
“You were asked if you had informed her of your previous conviction. You told it was not the right time, so probation gave you time and said that if you did not the police would,” the judge stated.
He noted the defendant hadn’t disclosed to the probation officer that youngsters were involved. Judge Woolfall referenced a trip to the pub with children present.
However, more troubling was the circus visit when he was left unsupervised with children.

“You later went on holiday. You were turned around at Border Control in Turkey and you had to get a return flight,” he said. Judge Woolfall emphasised that the terms of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order are “non-negotiable.
“They are there to protect children,” the judge stated.
He sentenced Greaves to a total of 10 months behind bars.
